Since 1991, Starry Nights have been organised by teams of volunteer astronomers.

On this occasion, the teams from the Pic du Midi will be joining you at the Maison du Tourmalet at 2115m to host an exceptional Starry Night.

The Pic du Midi, in collaboration with the team of astronomers from the Pic du Midi Observatory and scientific associations at the Maison du Tourmalet, is offering you a brand new event to commune with the setting Sun and the stars during an exceptional evening at the Col du Tourmalet in French only!

Your programme

8pm: Meet at the Maison du Tourmalet 2115m

Meet up at the end of the day at the legendary Col du Tourmalet and meet the team of astronomers from the Pic du Midi Observatory and scientific associations at the Maison du Tourmalet, which will be open until 9pm on 10 August. (open continuously from 10am to 9pm)

As well as refreshments and hot drinks, to get you ready for a great evening.

9pm : Sunset time

Then came the long-awaited magic moment: watching the sunset and the birth of the stars through our volunteers' observation glasses.

9.30 pm Observations at the Col du Tourmalet

Wrap up warm and take part in the astronomical activities. From the Col du Tourmalet, in the heart of the Pic du Midi International Dark Sky Reserve, enthusiastic astronomers and scientists will be on hand to help you observe the night sky with the naked eye and telescopes: the moon, galaxies, star clusters and planets. The programme finishes around midnight, and you'll head back down to La Mongie with stars in your eyes and dreams to match the universe that was yours for a night.

Marketing

Recommendations

Remember that the Col du Tourmalet is situated at an altitude of 2115 m respectively. Given the weather conditions and the high altitude, it is particularly advisable to dress and equip yourself accordingly, even in summer, to make the most of your day.

Warm clothing

Don't forget to bring very warm clothing: hat, gloves, good shoes, fleece, windbreaker, etc.

Equipment

You can bring binoculars and lamps (torches or headlamps) with red light only*.

No animals

Pets are not allowed at the summit (except assistance dogs). Pets can be looked after.

Languages

The evening's entertainment will be in French only.

*Red light: This will be useful when you're on the move and will help your vision when observing the night sky.

Cancellation policy:

This programme is subject to weather conditions, and all or part of it will be cancelled on a case-by-case basis. If the Pic du Midi is forced to close (due to operating conditions that prevent the cable cars from working) on the same day or in advance, the Pic du Midi will be reimbursed and the rest of the programme will be maintained.

In the event of bad weather, observations/events will take place indoors at the Maison du Tourmalet.
